Magic City Books will include a newsstand and a cafe.
Tulsa World covered the exciting news about the Tulsa Literary Coalition’s plans to bring an independent bookstore, Magic City Books, to the Brady Arts District. This initiative aims to celebrate literature while fostering a sense of community through engaging events and discussions.
The bookstore will occupy a key corner in a building owned by the George Kaiser Family Foundation, with renovations led by Lilly Architects. Lilly Architects is designing the space, ensuring that Magic City Books becomes a welcoming and vibrant environment for book lovers. The completed store will feature a curated selection of books, a newsstand, a cafe, and a meeting space for literary events.
Proceeds from Magic City Books will support the Tulsa Literary Coalition, funding book discussions, writing workshops, and literary panels. The goal is to make both the bookstore and the nonprofit sustainable, contributing to Tulsa’s growing reputation as a literary hub. With support from influential authors like David Sedaris and Salman Rushdie, the coalition also envisions launching a literary festival in the district.
