Reimagining Tulsa Along the Midland Valley Trail
Bridging Urban and Natural Landscapes
At the intersection of 18th and Boston in Tulsa, an ambitious vision took form: a 13,000-square-foot mixed-use development designed to seamlessly connect The Gathering Place and Downtown Tulsa. Positioned along the historic Midland Valley Trail Parkway, the project sought to transform a key stretch of Tulsa’s urban fabric into a vibrant, community-focused space that balanced the energy of the city with the tranquility of nature. Rooted in thoughtful, contextual design, this development served as a powerful blueprint for fostering connection, exploration, and engagement in the heart of Tulsa.
Contextual Design: Blending Tradition with Innovation
The Midland Valley Trail’s historic and cultural significance was central to the design. To honor its character, the project incorporated natural materials like stone and corten steel, grounding the architecture in a sense of place and history. These elements were paired with expansive glass façades and terraces, showcasing a timeless aesthetic that seamlessly blended with modern design principles.
Transparency was a cornerstone of the design philosophy. Expansive glazing erased barriers between the indoors and the natural environment, inviting light, activity, and interaction. Outdoor terraces and patios extended these connections, creating spaces where people could gather, linger, and enjoy the intersection of urban and natural beauty.

Activation Through Programmatic Design
The project envisioned a dynamic hub of activity, with the ground floor devoted to retail and dining spaces that opened directly onto patios along the Midland Valley Trail. These vibrant spaces were designed to draw both trail users and visitors, creating a lively pedestrian-friendly environment.
Above, flexible office and studio spaces were designed to meet the needs of Tulsa’s creative and entrepreneurial communities, offering adaptable environments that could evolve alongside the city’s growth. Public spaces, including shaded gathering zones and event areas, underscored the project’s focus on fostering meaningful connections. By prioritizing spaces for interaction, the development was poised to serve as both a cultural and economic catalyst.
Enhancing Tulsa’s Urban Infrastructure

By integrating seamlessly with the Midland Valley Trail Parkway, the design reimagined the trail as more than just a recreational pathway.
