A certified historic rehabilitation transforms Bruce Goff’s Tulsa Club into a boutique hotel while preserving its history.
Preserving an Early Vision of Oklahoma Design
Designed in 1927 by Bruce Goff during his tenure at Rush, Endicott, and Rush, the Tulsa Club Building is a cornerstone of Oklahoma’s architectural history. As one of Goff’s earliest works, the structure embodies the innovative spirit that would later define his career. The building's striking Art Deco design and its role as a hub for Tulsa's affluent oil society solidified its status as an Oklahoma landmark. This restoration honors Goff’s vision while breathing new life into the historic structure.
A Testament to Historic Preservation
Lilly Architects partnered with the Ross Group to meticulously restore this architectural gem. After sitting vacant for more than two decades, the Tulsa Club Building faced significant challenges, including fire damage, vandalism, and years of neglect. Through careful preservation and adherence to historic tax credit guidelines, the team balanced the restoration of original elements—such as terrazzo floors, mosaic fireplaces, and marble accents—with the integration of modern materials and amenities. These efforts preserved the building’s architectural integrity while transforming it into a vibrant, contemporary space.
Showcasing Art Deco Elegance and Structural Innovation
The Tulsa Club’s 11 stories highlight Goff’s early mastery of space, form, and detail. From its dramatic facades to intricate interior ornamentation, the design reflects the exuberance of the Roaring Twenties. The restoration addressed structural challenges by reinforcing key systems while also accommodating new uses like the addition of 3,300 square feet to the fifth floor. The transformation maintains the spirit of Goff’s design while meeting the demands of a modern luxury hotel.
A Luxurious Tribute to History
Reimagined as the Tulsa Club Hotel, the building’s interior combines Art Deco flair with contemporary sophistication. Each of the 96 guest rooms features unique configurations, custom-designed furnishings, and brass accents that echo the era of its original construction. The restored Grand Ballroom, with its soaring ceilings and ornate detailing, is a centerpiece of the hotel, offering an unparalleled event space in Tulsa. The building also houses a restaurant, bar, and outdoor terrace, further enhancing its role as a destination in downtown Tulsa.
Elevating Oklahoma's Architectural Legacy
As one of Bruce Goff’s formative projects, the Tulsa Club Building is a vital piece of Oklahoma’s architectural narrative. Its restoration not only celebrates Goff’s early contributions to the field but also reinforces the importance of preserving and adapting the state’s architectural heritage. This project exemplifies how thoughtful design can honor the past while creating a meaningful future.
An Icon Reimagined
The Tulsa Club Hotel stands as a beacon of Tulsa’s Deco District and a testament to Bruce Goff’s enduring influence on architectural design in Oklahoma. By restoring this landmark to its former glory, the project not only revitalizes an architectural treasure but also celebrates the vision of an Oklahoma architect whose work continues to inspire.
